“50/50 III” Coming Soon! Here Are The Details…
Tuesday, September 29th, 2009“50/50 III” Opening November 5, 2009!
Thought we’d try something different this time around, like opening the latest installment of “50/50″ on ‘1st Thursday’ in the Bishop Arts District. Lots of foot traffic that day, which means a great opportunity to sell more art!
If you aren’t familiar with the concept of “50/50″, the idea is we take numerous artists, have them create small, eye-catching works of art, and sell them for only $50.00 each. With this show, we try to encourage the idea that great art doesn’t always have to cost a fortune, and it also shows to art lovers and collectors alike the kinds of art being created around the country. It also happens to be a great opportunity for art lovers to start an art collection, and a chance to get a very unique gift for that ’special someone.’
“50/50 III” DETAILS:
This show is open to all artist of all mediums. Submissions should try not be any larger than 12″ x 12″ (or thereabouts). However, it is solely up to the participating artist if they want to submit larger works. Just remember, all art sells for only $50.00 each, so artists, please use your discretion accordingly. Artist is not limited on subject matter or on the number of submissions.
ALL ART MUST be ‘hang ready’, meaning works on paper (prints, photographs, etc.) MUST be framed and must have hanging hardware on the back. Works on canvas ALSO MUST HAVE HANGING WIRE. WE WILL NOT HANG ANYTHING IF IT DOES NOT HAVE HANGING WIRE ON THE BACK!!!!!! If the artist submits work without hanging hardware or wire, it will not be placed on display and returned to the artist immediately, at the artist’s expense. All art should also be furnished with the artist’s name, title of work, medium, and contact information (including a return address.)
The Soda Gallery will split all commission sales 80/20, meaning the artist will make $40 from each work sold on consignment, the gallery $10. Sales are not guaranteed by the gallery. The gallery will pay all artists after December 1, 2009 on any works sold. Any work not sold by that date may remain on display until sold, or until the artist and/or gallery arranges for return of art. Artists are responsible for making sure art arrives to the gallery. MOST IMPORTANT: ALL ART MUST BE RECEIVED ON OR BEFORE TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2009. Absolutely no exceptions. Any submissions received after that day will be returned immediately to the artist at the artist’s expense. (Seriously…there is no reason art can’t be received by the given deadline.)
Participating artists will be required to fill out and sign an ‘Artist Consignment Agreement’ for this exhibition, which will be provided by the gallery in person or via email. Consignment agreements must be signed by artist and gallery, and received by the art deadline date.
This exhibit will open on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 7pm, which is the usual start time for the Bishop Arts District ‘1st Thursday’. Only then will “50/50″ artwork be available for purchase. Art for this show will not be sold prior to that time. (In the past, we’ve had patrons want to purchase art before it went on display. We want to be fair to all artists and patrons, and make sure everyone has a fair shot obtaining artwork.)
Artists wishing to participate must email the gallery in advance to be placed on the participation list. This way, we know exactly how many artists we are dealing with. Cut off for participation is Saturday, October 31, 2009. Please email Jonathon to be placed on the participation list at thesodagallery@gmail.com. Please be sure to include “50/50″ Participation in the subject line. Also, if you have a website link or images to include, please do so for promotional use.
Any questions regarding this exhibition, please contact The Soda Gallery at the email address above.
Feel free to pass along this info to anyone you think might be interested in participating. This event is our biggest show for the year, and receives a lot of foot traffic through the holidays.
