“50/50″ Open Call For Artists…

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Announcing “50/50″

The Soda Gallery is hosting an open call for artists for ”50/50″, a refreshing new group show slated to open March 15, 2008.

The Concept:

”50/50″ is fifty artists exhibiting one work each and making them available for only $50.00. The idea is to celebrate great art and artists, as well as giving art fans and collectors a chance to purchase quality original art at an affordable price, when most people usually have to settle for reproductions and prints. The idea is more about the art and the art lover, rather than the price tag associated with the art.

Art Guidelines:

In order to keep work at this affordable price, we request that artwork be no larger than 8″ x 10″, excluding frames. All medias will be excepted (photography, painting, collage, prints, drawings, doodles on napkins, 3-D, etc.) All work needs to be ’hang ready’ (hanging hardware on back). Paintings need to be either framed or have painted edges (gallery wrapped). Basically, make sure that all work looks professional. If it doesn’t, we won’t hang it, so use your best judgement. There is no limitation to subject matter, however I will empahsize that we are a family-oriented shop/gallery, so please don’t submit anything explicit. We do reserve the right to exclude any art if we deem it inappropriate for our audience. Think ‘Disney’. Commission split (for this show only) will be 80/20, which breaks down to the gallery making $10.00 off of every piece sold, and $40.00 going to the artist. All work will be sold on consignment only, and there is no guarantee of sale of any particular work of art. DEADLINE for all artwork is March 8, 2008. Please email if you have further questions.

Submission process:

If you would like to be considered for the show, please email  jonathon@thesodagallery.com, and put ‘50/50′ in the subject headline. Please include a few sample images of your work, or website address, along with your full name. If we like your stuff, we’ll contact you with confirmation that you will be in the show. *Note, this is a first come, first served opportunity, and spaces are extremely limited. Space is already filling up now, so don’t hesitate to submit!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ll reply in a timely and orderly fashion. Looking forward to see some great art for this show!

what’s up big-d?

so, school is back in full swing again. it’s a marketing campaign that will never end as long as there are established schools. what does that have to do with us? well, nothing really. i just wanted to point out the fact that all the school kids are locked up behind brick and mortar, when they could be here, having a deliciously cold soda (or three).  but anyhoo…

i wanted to keep the folks here in dallas (and points in between) in tune with some events we having coming up at the soda gallery. first up, if you haven’t been by all summer to see “two of us”, the current exhibition from artists jonathon kimbrell and andrea heimer, shame on you. you don’t know what you are missing. the temperature is getting cooler outside, folks. that means you need to make your way down here for some cold soda and hot art! “two of us” concludes october 15th, so be sure to come see it while it’s still up.

speaking of art shows, next on the bill is our very first group exhibition, “caffeinated”, featuring some incredible talent from all over the country. if you are looking for pop art, photography, surrealism, or even art created on vinyl records, we will have it! “caffeinated” officially opens saturday, october 20th from 7-11pm and is slated to be on display until the end of the year. (we may squeeze in one more show for the holiday season, if time and patience perservere…)

the following weekend brings yet another awesome tequila tasting event from los catadores tequila. the first tasting was so successful, we decided to host it as a reoccuring, monthly event. so, be sure to be here at the soda gallery on saturday, october 27th from 9-10pm (must be 21 or older to participate.)

as always, we host the friday night dallas poetry slam, every friday from 8:30-10:30pm, as well as the bishop arts district 1st thursday soda tasitng. curious about a flavor of soda we carry and want to try it? come see us on the first thursday of every month, from 7-9pm. bring a date and beat them at chinese checkers, too!

last, but certainly not least, we will finally be making much of our soda available for purchase through our website, for those who don’t live close enough to visit us in person, and for those who just like to buy soda online at odd hours of the night. i’ll admit…it’s a challenge to keep up with all this stuff, but we’re making it work. in addition to the website, we will also be putting out a monthly e-newsletter to our subscribers, letting everyone know about the upcoming events for the month, as well as info on new sodas we carry and the featured ’soda of the month’! so, if you would like to receive up-to-date info, shoot us an email and we’ll add you to this list!

~rock on big-d! and bring some more rain, while you’re rockin’ on.

Soda Gallery Artists To Show In Seattle…

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

The Soda Gallery gives big kudos to our current exhibiting artists Andrea Heimer and Jonathon Kimbrell, as their work will be featured with additiona artist, Greg Gossel, at Suite 100 Gallery in Seattle, WA. “Party”, opening Friday, Sept. 14, and continues until October 5th.

This is what Suite 100 Gallery had to say about “Party”:

“Party” demonstrates a range of contemporary expression in a retro style. Andrea Heimer delves into the facial expression of opposing emotions in her silk-screened portraits, the same face reading distinct states through context. Jonathon Kimbrell examines political representation in the election process by declaring the candidacy of superheroes. Greg Gossel illustrates struggle and beauty through visible processes, allowing the viewer to follow his trail markers.

Together, these artists spark a conversation about our current state of affairs, and the human experiences we endure and celebrate, while connecting us with our history. “Party” is a show not to be missed.”

So, if any of you art fans near the Seattle area need something new and exciting to do this coming Friday, check out “Party”, and support the local arts scene. For more info on the show, the art, and Suite 100 Gallery, please visit their website at www.suite100gallery.com

Coming soon, be sure to look for more exciting work from Andrea Heimer, Jonathon Kimbrell and Greg Gossel, as well as other fantastic artists from around the country, in our upcoming group exhibition, “Caffeinated!”, opening Saturday, October 20th. More details soon.
